An Amazing Fact
Blue Lake, located in Nelson Lakes National Park in New Zealand,
is thought to be the clearest natural fresh lake in the world.
The cold waters in this boomerang-shaped lake have been
scientiically measured for clarity, with underwater visibility up
to 260 feet, or the same as distilled water. The optically clear
water has a blue-violet hue, thus its name. The lake is considered
sacred to the local Māori people and bathing, swimming, and
diving there are prohibited. Scientists attribute the clarity of the
water to its passage underground from nearby Lake Constance,
which ilters out almost all the particles suspended in water.
“And he showed me a pure river
of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding from the throne of God
and of the Lamb” (Revelation 22:1).
