Ellsworth

was grateful for a Bible study that inally
made sense. He and his wife Evelyn were searching for answers

to their questions about Scripture when God led them to a

prophecy seminar with Amazing Facts evangelist Dave Steward.
But getting to this place wasn’t easy .

Faith Confusion

Ellsworth was raised in a Christian home in 1930s Duluth,

Minnesota. The family earnestly served the Lord in their daily
lives, giving thanks at every meal, fostering a good work ethic,

and emphasizing salvation by grace.

In his youth, Ellsworth had been baptized in a river by a

small church.“I’ve always searched the Scriptures,” Ellsworth
said,“but this particular little church was stratiied by their

Jesus-only faith.” They preached exclusively about Jesus; no

credit was given to the Father or Spirit.“It hurt my parents
when I parted from that church, but I knew that wasn’t what

the Bible teaches.”

Evelyn did not grow up in a traditional Christian home.

Her father struggled with alcohol addiction and died when she
was only two, leaving her mother to raise nine children. Still,

her mother taught them all to pray and to hold the Bible in

high regard.

Evelyn’s grandparents were Catholics from Germany.
One day, her grandparents were talking with a priest in their

home. When it became clear that their family was reading the

Scriptures, the priest chastised them, saying the Bible should
be read and interpreted only by the clergy. He then insisted

that they relinquish their Bible to him for proper disposal.

Knowing the value of God’s Word, Evelyn’s grandfather sternly

sent the priest away empty-handed!
