Training

TroopsFaithful and Fearless

An Amazing Fact: On November 30, 1939, the Soviet
Union invaded Finland with more than 400,000 troops—
more than three times as many soldiers as the Finns—
thirty times as many aircraft, and a hundred times as
many tanks. It looked to be a sure victory for Stalin.
Instead, the Winter War became one of the USSR’s most
shocking defeats. A well-trained and determined Finnish
army slowed and decimated the invaders until a peace
deal finally ended the war.

Dear friend,
You and I know that in the last days, the Lord’s army will be only a fraction of the

size of the devil’s unbelieving forces, but the Bible clearly shows that having superior
numbers doesn’t always guarantee victory. You and Jesus are always a majority! This
is why Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, “For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by
many or by few” (1 Samuel 14:6).

When an army of one million Ethiopians came against the much smaller army of
Judah, King Asa prayed, “LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with
those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go
against this multitude” (2 Chronicles 14:11). Because they trusted in God, the Lord gave
Judah a decisive victory over their enemies.

Yet even so, I am deeply concerned about the shortage of trained disciples among
God’s last-day people. Every week church leaders contact Amazing Facts searching for
training resources to mobilize their members into outreach.

Think about it in this way: In America, for every 1,000 citizens, only 4.2 people are
in active military service. Now compare that to, say, Israel, with 21.4 active military
members per 1,000 citizens—five times as many! In the same way, our churches today
have only a fraction of the evangelism workers they should have.

Where is the passion for evangelism in our ranks? The devil has many more
committed personnel in his army, actively leading millions into distracting and
destructive sins. How can we compete with just a fraction of that force? We have to
change that together!
